The forests located within our operating area are home to a wide variety of wildlife species that are able to survive or avoid the deep snows of winter. These include black (see video) and grizzly bear (see video), mountain caribou(see video), moose (see video), deer, cougar (see video), elk, mountain goat, wolverine as well as smaller mammals such as marmots, squirrels and martens to name a few. Various cavity nesting birds, eagles, ospreys and hawks etc. reside in the area. Lake Revelstoke and Kinbasket Lake as well as many of the tributary streams contain a variety of fish species, which include bull trout, kokanee, and rainbow trout. Video courtesy Jim Greeno

In general, the Land Use Plans and the Forest and Range Practices Act legislate and/or guide the management of fish and wildlife resources in terms of forest development. There are specific legal requirements and /or management guidelines in place for species such as the grizzly bear and Mountain caribou. Biodiversity requirements, which provide for the retention of mature and old forest areas in each biogeoclimatic unit, maintains habitat for many species.
